Paige Mortensen is an award winning watercolour batik artist living in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada. Watercolour batik has been her medium of choice since 2012. Her work was selected by the jury for Dimensions 2015 - Saskatchewan Craft Council’s Touring Juried Exhibition as well as for Art Now - The Saskatchewan Fine Art and Craft Fair (2016, 2017 & 2018). She has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions across Saskatchewan and has work in private collections across Canada. Paige is an active member of Canadian Artists’ Representation (CARFAC), Artists’ Workshop Saskatoon and a juried member of the Saskatchewan Craft Council. She is represented by the Saskatchewan Craft Council Boutique as well as And Art Gallery.
The watercolour batik process continues to fascinate her. This process combines elements of printmaking with the ancient art of batik.
Paige is excited to share with you the process she uses to turn Ginwashi paper into richly textured images by building up layers of wax and watercolour. Once the final darks are added the wax is ironed off and you will experience the excitement of finally seeing your work clearly!
